The Justice Department last week announced a False Claims Act settlement of over $1 million with Barrday Inc. and two related companies for claims regarding Zylon, a fabric used in the manufacture of bulletproof vests. It was alleged that Barrday, a Canadian company, was aware that its Zylon was defective since 2001 but continued selling it through 2003.
The United States has already settled with four other companies involved in the manufacture and sale of Zylon for over $46 million and has lawsuits pending against several others. The Barrday settlement was the result of an investigation by the Justice Department, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, and several other federal agencies.
